Wes Williams aka Maestro Fresh Wes, is considered to be one of Canada’s premier multi-media personalities. He is an award winning recording artist, actor, author and motivational speaker.
Wes is the first Canadian hip hop artist to have a single reach gold status in this country with his legendary track LET YOUR BACKBONE SLIDE, and his 1989 album SYMPHONY IN EFFECT is the first to receive a JUNO Award for Best Rap Recording of The Year as well as the first Canadian hip hop album to reach Platinum status. As an actor, Wes has been on several film and television projects and currently plays school Vice Principal, Paul Dwyer on the CBC hit sitcom Mr. D which is currently in its eighth season.
The foreword of Wes’ motivational book STICK TO YOUR VISION was written by Chuck D of the legendary hip hop group Public Enemy. Not only did Toronto’s international superstar Drake credit Maestro for inspiring him with his confidence in the book’s testimonial, but STICK TO YOUR VISION is also a part of the school curriculum at The Dartmouth Campus of Nova Scotia Community Colleges. The book is also mandatory reading for grade ten students in the province and in June 2017 Wes received an Honorary Diploma from the Akerley Campus for the major impact he has made.
Wes’ presentations are not only for corporate companies, high schools and universities, but elementary schools as well. He mentors young students and has done several workshops. The Institute of Canadian Citizenship recently asked Wes to be the keynote speaker to help swear in 60 new immigrants from 23 different countries of origin.
His song REACH FOR THE SKY ( feat. Classified & Blue Rodeo ) was played throughout the 2014 Winter Olympics while his track THE DISTANCE ( feat. Saukrates ) was played throughout the 2016 Summer Olympics. His song UNDERESTIMATED ( feat JD Era and JRDN ) is a part of EA Sports NHL17 video game. Wes continues to evolve, diversify and continues to be a major influence to Canadians everywhere. He was thrilled to be a part of Tedx on November 12 2017 and was a part of Classified’s 2018 Canadian Classic Tour hitting 28 cities across the country.
2019 commemorates the 30 year anniversary of his first album and it’s a great time to celebrate as well as to motivate young minds. Recently, Wes performed and was a presenter at the 2019 JUNO Awards, performed at the final home game for the Vancouver Canucks’ 2019 NHL season, and supported the Kidney Foundation of BC.
His new album CHAMPAGNE CAMPAIGN — 2019’s 11 song LP featuring brand new material — is available now.
